The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Chapter and Zeberced Construction Company Limited yesterday organized health walking and jogging exercise for journalists which started from Berger junction to it secretariat at Utako in Abuja.
Medical personnels were on ground at the NUJ Secretariat attending to journalists, ranging from blood pressure tests, sugar level tests, and prescriptions.
Revealing the reason behind the exercise, the Managing Director of Zeberced, Adil Kurt said ” health walk is good for everyone because of the type of work journalists do. You work round the clock, especially with the birth of new media.
“Sweating is good for us all, especially from the walk as it promotes good health, burning calories and keep fit.
“We (Zeberced) are concerned with the development of the country through her services, the health of the people are important as a healthy people can promote wealth distribution.”
According to the Zeberced’s managing Kurt, who led others senior management team to the event, said the health walk is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility and gives support to the media for its contribution to the world as a whole.
Commending the service, the National President of NUJ, Comrade Chris Isiguzo, implored journalists to prioritise their health, saying that only a healthy body will deliver quality and efficient reportage.
He lauded NUJ FCT Chapter and Zeberced for coming out with such a good idea and urged journalists to always create time out of their tight schedule to attend to their health at all times.
According to him, constant exercise will keep the body fit and guide against any sickness that may damage the body. Zeberced is a construction company that felt it necessary to relate with journalists.
“You need to exercise yourself, considering the kind of things you eat. We don’t have time to allow them to burn out. It’s good to create this kind of platform so that journalists can exercise.
“So that is why what is happening today is a good one. I also want to appeal to them that it shouldn’t be a one-off thing because it is not something you do once and you stop. It is something you must do every day,” Isiguzo appealed.
