NUPENG tasks FG on good roads, truck parking terminals, security

The National Executive Council of Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) branch of NUPENG, yesterday called on the federal government to help with the provision of motorable roads, truck parking terminals and security of its members.

Briefing newsmen at its Secretariat, the Chairman PTD Branch of NUPENG, Comrade Blessed Timothy Ogbu listed bad roads, lack of truck parking terminals and insecurity as some of the challenges confronting the union therefore called on the federal government to help in the direction.

The challenges include: “poor state of our Road, though with some improvement by Government in recent time, but then there is need to improve, secondly, is the issue of Truck Parking Terminal and more seriously now is the state of insecurity. We urged Government to do the needful in addressing these problems,” he said.

Comrade Ogbu said, “the Union has recorded tremendous successes in the areas of promoting peace and industrial harmony at all levels, ensures conduct of free and fair elections, and most importantly the channel of energy and focus towards Capacity Development, members have attended various international and local training programmes and participated in Federal Government Committee on Vandalisation, Road Rehabilitation and Truck parking Terminals among others.

According to him, the forthcoming delegates conference of PTD, which is the third in the series was scheduled for 2nd and 3rd of April 2014 the Shehu Musa Yar’dua, Abuja.

“The conference with the theme, Building Strategic Partnership for Effective and Safe Distribution of Petroleum Products in Nigeria would expectedly served as an occasion for stock-taking, profound and extensive deliberations on the way forward, both for the Union and the Oil and Gas sector with particular emphasis on the haulage subsector.

“Similarly, the conference will offer opportunities to dissects the problems and challenges confronting the subsector and proffer solutions as well as relates the successes recorded under the outgoing executive.

He said the Union on the occasion of the conference would confer award on forty distinguished Nigerians in recognition of their starling qualities, selfless services and immense contribution towards the development of haulage sector of the Oil and Gas Industry.
