NWFL Club Owners congratulates Edo Queens on CAF WAFU-B victory

The NWFL Club Owners Association (NWFLCOA) has extended her warmest congratulations to the Nigerian champions, Edo Queens on their hard-fought and well deserved victory at the 2026 CAF WAFU-B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

The nation’s candidates fought off a stiff challenge from neighbours and Ghanaian champions, Ampen Darkoa Ladies to win the final match 4-1 on penalties after full time scores stood at two goals apiece on Saturday night at the mainbowl of Stade August 4.

The Nigerian campaigners had to come back twice from behind to hold off their toughest challengers, Ampen Darkoa Ladies, who had earlier beaten their Nigerian counterparts, Edo Queens 2-1 in the second group’s game of the qualifying playoffs.

Edo Queens now the champions of the Sub-region will fly the flag of the body and Nigerians at the continental showdown – CAF Women’s Champions League in South Africa later in the year.

The Queens from the ancient city of Benin, Nigeria won the Sub-regional football championship for the first time in 2024 and went ahead to finish the continental showpiece in Morocco in the fourth place.

NWFLCOA observed that the Nigerian and WAFU-B champions have shown capacity and resilience in their latest overwhelming performance and victory that they have all it takes to head to the continent in South Africa to further excel and perhaps, become the first domestic side to win the African title.

NWFLCOA wishes the all-conquering sides safe return to the country and best of luck in all their future endeavors.

Aside Edo Queens, three other Nigerian champions, Rivers Angels, Bayelsa Queens and Delta Queens have had a bit on the Sub-regional football event with the trio, Rivers Angels, Bayelsa Queens and Edo Queens headed to the finals at the continent with Bayelsa Queens and Edo Queens finishing third and fourth respectively and overall.
