NYSC enlistment: Beware of fake degree awarding institutions – Ohaa cautions parents

Permanent Secretary, FCT, Sir Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa has cautioned parents and guardians to be wary of foreign and local mushroom institutions that award fake degrees to their children.
Ohaa advised the youth to always carry out background checks on educational institutions both at home and abroad, in order to avoid falling prey to operators of fake institutions or getting admitted to non-accredited courses.
Making this call while speaking in Abuja, at a meeting organized by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for corps producing institutions and other stakeholders to sensitize them on the rules and procedure of enlistment and mobilisation into the scheme.
According to him, “while institutions in Nigeria are constantly subjected to the regulatory control of relevant agencies of government, especially on quality assurance, it is important that we equally forge mutually beneficial relationship with foreign institutions being patronised by our compatriots.”
“Educational institutions are critical to the provision of qualified manpower for various sectors of our economy.
“However, such roles can only product meaningful results when all players act in tandem with established rules.”
The Permanent Secretary also urged stakeholders to safeguard the credibility of the mobilisation process, familiarise themselves with requirements for mobilisation for National Service before graduation.
He particularly tasked them to “ensure that products of such institutions meet the basic requirements that will enable them function affectively in various sectors.”
