A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Edo State, Charles Idahosa has said the classical reforms and innovation of the State governor, Godwin Obaseki, have taken a toll on some leaders of the party in the State.
He made the remark at concerned APC party leaders meeting on Thursday in Benin City where they appealed to aggrieved members of the party to set aside for ahead of contestation for 2020 re-elections in Edo State.
Idahosa who is a former political Adviser Adams Adams Oshiomhole, said the individuals had benefited immensely from the goodwill of the party in the past.
According to him, “These reforms and innovations appear to have taken its toll on some of our party leaders who had benefitted immediately from the past. Rather than adjust to the new system of governance, they have chosen to confront the Governor and take him out by all means without considering the implications to the party”.
Also, in a communique issued at the end of a meeting yesterday in Benin City, accused unamed members of anti-party activities.
The communique was signed by Charles Idahosa (Edo South), Usman Shagadi (Edo North) and Prince Mackor Momodu (Edo North) Senatorial in the State.
It described the “insinuation that the Governor was responsible for the poor outing of the party in the last Presidential and National Assembly results is, to say the very least.
“This is because it is common knowledge that Ethno-religious considerations together with anti-party activities of our own members, which include some of those pointing accusing fingers, were largely responsible”.
The communique noted that the result of the House of Assembly elections where the party won all the seats ‘is accurate measure of the governor’s acceptability’.
The leaders stated that they are in communication with APC National chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, adding that the latter has a healthy relationship with Obaseki.
It also said, “Oshiomhole has expressed confidence and satisfaction publicly and privately on governor Obaseki in the recent past”.
