Former Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi has described Victor Osimhen as an inspiration to young Nigerians.
Mr Oni who is expected to contest for the 2027 presidential election, stated this on Monday while congratulating the Super Eagles striker for helping his club, Galatasaray to win the 2026 Turkish Super League o. Sunday.
“I want to join other fans in congratulating one of Nigeria’s many talented exports, Victor Osimhen, for successfully leading Galatasaray S.K. to the Turkish Süper Lig title with a brilliant performance, scoring twice in the decisive victory that sealed the championship.
” Your resilience, discipline, and talent continue to inspire millions of young Nigerians to believe in the power of hard work, dedication, and excellence. You have remained a proud ambassador of Nigeria on the global stage, bringing honour to our nation through your achievements and conduct. Nigerians are immensely proud of you and your continued success.,” Obi said.
Galatasaray secured their fourth consecutive Turkish league title on Saturday after a 4-2 home win over Antalyaspor.
The Istanbul club are four points ahead of arch-rivals Fenerbahce, who they beat 3-0 last month, with one match remaining.
Led by star striker Nigerian Victor Osimhen, Galatasaray have qualified directly for the Champions League again after making it to the knock-out round this year, notably routing Juventus along the way.
Obi emphasized the power of sports as an enabler in facilitating opportunities for young Nigerians but lamented that the sector has been neglected.
“I have often spoken about the transformative power of sports and the immense opportunities it offers to young people. This is why the persistent neglect of the sector in our country is deeply regrettable. The truth is that Nigeria is blessed with countless talents like Osimhen, waiting for the right leadership, support, and environment to rise, excel, and bring glory to the nation.
” I reiterate that a new Nigeria, where all sectors develop simultaneously for the balanced growth and health of the nation is POssible.
“I wish @victorosimhen9 even greater success in the years ahead,” Obi voncluded.
