The Obi/Kwankwaso Movement, OK Movement, has called on the leadership of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC), to allow it to operate as an independent support group ahead of the 2027 general election.
The movement said its autonomy was necessary to enable it to effectively mobilize supporters and pursue its objective of securing votes for the proposed presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Deputy Director-General of the group, Prince Abubakar Suleiman, made the call in Michika, Adamawa State, while addressing stakeholders of the movement.
Suleiman said the OK Movement was an independent organisation with functional structures at ward, local government and state levels across the country.
He said the group had established a grassroots presence across the six geopolitical zones and was targeting 10 million votes for the Obi/Kwankwaso ticket in the 2027 presidential election.
“The Obi/Kwankwaso ticket is the hope of the common Nigerian. We have done our mapping and mobilization, and I can assure Nigerians that we shall deliver 10 million votes to this joint ticket. Our people are ready, our structures are ready,” he said.
The deputy director-general stressed that the movement was not directly controlled by the NDC, describing the relationship between both organizations as one of partnership.
“We are appealing to the leadership of the NDC to allow the movement to stay as an independent support group. The OK Movement is a body in its own right and not under the party’s leadership.
“We are partners in progress working for the victory of the party, but we need our independence to function effectively,” he added.
Suleiman also commended the movement’s Director-General, John Ughulu, for what he described as efforts to expand its structures and strengthen its national presence.
He urged members and supporters to remain peaceful, focused and committed to the movement’s mobilization efforts ahead of the 2027 election.
