Obi should quit Labour Party instead of playing anti-party politics – Spokesman

The Labour Party (LP) has called on its presidential candidate in 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, to quit the party rather than playing anti-party politics by associating with other political parties ahead of the 2027 poll.
Speaking on Channels TV, monitored in Abuja, the spokesman for LP, Abayomi Arabambi, accused Mr Obi of playing anti-party by identifying with opposition figures in the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Mr Arabambi described Mr Obi as an “irredentist element,” who is dividing the opposition LP ahead of the 2027 election.
He stated that the party was also working to expel the former presidential candidate and other members deemed disloyal before the next general election.
“Our plan now is to get rid of most of the irredentist elements, people who are just epitome of political extremism in them. We don’t want them in the Labour Party. Now that they’re moving to ADC, we wish them well. But up till today, Obi has a leg in LP. He has one in PDP, and he has one leg in ADC,” the LP spokesman said.
He argued that it was time for Mr Obi to openly announce his exit from the LP instead of parading himself as a member of the opposition party.
He stated, “If he believes he has that proficiency on his own to have seven million votes in the 2027 general elections, we advise him to pronounce his departure from the Labour Party.”
He said, “’We have an election in Ondo. Obi campaigned over five times. We also did an election in Edo State, and we scored some percentage. So, the momentum in 2023 was not because of Peter Obi, but because of EndSARS. Obi was just a man who came to whip as a result of Nigeria’s tiredness of the scandalous administration of Buhari [Muhammed] during the #EndSARS. He only found Labour Party as that vehicle that can provide that change, and he was just opportune to be the head.’’
