El-Kanemi Warriors goalkeeper, David Obiozor has expressed surprise at being overlooked in Nigeria’s recent shortlists for the 2015 AFCON matches as well as the international friendly match.

Coach Stephen Keshi on Friday named a 24-man list each for the crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Congo and South Africa as well as the international friendly tie to mark the opening of the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, Uyo on November 7.

The El-Kanemi Warriors shot-stopper got his first call-up though he did not make the final cut in the AFCON qualifying match against South Africa. Obiozor said he performed creditably well in his first call-up to deserve another mention at least in the Eagles team for the international friendly marking the official opening of the Akwa Ibom International Stadium.

“Yes, I was disappointed being overlooked this time in the recent Super Eagles call-up for the AFCON matches and international friendly match. “I expected a mention at least in the Super Eagles Team B for the international friendly as I gave my very best in the first call-up ahead of the AFCON tie against South Africa.

“I thought my performance in camp then was quite commended however I’ve taken my exclusion in good faith and as a wake-up call for me to work harder. “I just believe this is not my time and at the right time I’ll still receive an invitation but I now know that the surest way to reclaim my position is through hard work nothing else.
