Ogun 2027: APC affirms Sen. Olamilekan as governorship candidate

By Jude Opara

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has decleared that Sen. Solomon Olamilekan remains its governorship candidate in State election for the 2027 general elections.

National Secretary of the APC, Sen. Ajibola Basiru in a statement on Tuesday said the statement became necessary following the action of Mr. Abayomi Hunye who allegedly declared himself as the party’s governorship candidate for the state.

Basiru said Hunye has been on suspension from the party and could not have been presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s governorship candidate.

“His recent self-declaration as the Governorship Candidate of our great Party for the 2027 election is completely false, unauthorized, and a mischievous act aimed at misleading the public.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Mr. Abayomi Hunye is not a member of the APC in
good standing. He was suspended from the Party on April 7, 2026, following a
petition from his Ward, Tube Ward, in Ipokia Local Government Area.
The suspension was not arbitrary. It was a grassroots decision driven by the
Ward Executives in Tube Ward, ratified by the Ipokia Local Government Area,
and formally approved by the Ogun State Working Committee”.

Basiru said the suspension which was brought to the notice of the National Headquarters was based on his alleged anti-party activities.

“The reasons adduced for his
suspension are: • Nefarious Dealings: Engaging in activities injurious to the image of the Party and deliberate actions aimed at causing
disaffection and division among loyal members.

“Consequently, he lacks the legal and moral standing to represent the APC in any capacity”.

The National Secretary added that following the validly conducted Primary Election of the APC, the duly nominated and elected Governorship Candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election remains Sen. Adeola Solomon Olamilekan, while his running mate is Balogun Kudirat Abiodun.

“In line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026, and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the names and other particulars of Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan and Balogun Kudirat Abiodun have been successfully uploaded onto the NEC Portal and the Commission has issued official Acknowledgement Slips confirming them as the duly recognized
flag bearers of the APC for the Ogun State Governorship election scheduled for January 2027.

“Any person, group, or organization that associates, collaborates, or transacts any political business with Mr. Abayomi Hunye under the guise of the APC does so at their own risk. The Party will not be held liable for any financial loss, legal
disputes, or criminal liability that may arise from such dealings”.

The statement further urged its supporters in the state to remain calm, law-abiding, and ignore any act of
provocation from those who may want to disrupt the peace of the state.
