Fresh political calculations have emerged in Ogun State following the decision of Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, to join the Ogun West senatorial race ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Her entry comes shortly after the All Progressives Congress (APC) settled its governorship ticket with the adoption of Olamilekan Adeola as consensus candidate, a move that has shifted attention to the vacant senatorial seat in the district.
Sources indicate that Salako-Oyedele has already secured her nomination and expression of interest forms, signalling her readiness to contest for the Red Chamber seat.
The development is expected to reshape the contest, as several other aspirants, including Gbolahan Dada, Waliu Taiwo and Jimoh Ojugbele, have also shown interest in the race.
Political observers note that her candidacy introduces a new dynamic, particularly amid calls in some quarters for gender inclusion. Ogun State has not produced a female senator since Iyabo Obasanjo left the Senate in 2011.
While party stakeholders are reportedly exploring a consensus option similar to the governorship arrangement, rising ambitions among contenders may complicate efforts to maintain unity within the APC as the election cycle approaches.
