Sharks of Port Harcourt coach and newly appointed Super Eagles assistant coach, Gbenga Ogunbote says Coach Shuaibu Amodu who has taken over from Stephen Keshi can help Nigeria qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Nigeria Football Federation on Thursday named Amodu Shuaibu as replacement for former Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi following his unimpressive performance with the national team in recent times especially in the AFCON 2015 qualifiers.

Ogunbote expressed hope and confidence that Amodu has the wherewithal to pilot the Eagles to defend their trophy next year and added that NFF will provide the necessary platform for the Edo State-born coach to succeed. “I believe Amodu is capable of leading the Super Eagles to get to the next Nations Cup. He is quite experienced and he knows exactly what to do. Together we will all work to ensure that Nigeria defend the trophy in the next tournament,” Ogunbote said.

Apart from Ogunbote, Salisu Yusuf, and Aloysius Agu were also named as assistant coaches while the new Coordinator of the team is former international Garba Lawal.

With the change of guard at the national team, Nigerians expect that the coaches will work together to make sure that the Eagles win their next two games against the Red Devils of Congo Brazzaville and Bafana Bafana of South Africa so that the country’s flag would be hoisted at Africa football showpiece in 2015.
