The Delta state Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Prince Emmanuel Amgbaduba, has assured the people affected by Chevron Nigeria Limited oil spills in Gbaramatu Kingdom of Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, that the state government was on top of the situation towards resolving the issue.
Prince Amgbaduba gave the assurance when he visited the spill areas on Monday.
The first port of call by Prince Amgbaduba led team was Chevron Nigeria Limited, Abiteye Field, where he listened to the protesters before going to the Chevron Utunana Flow Station to also hear the complaints of the people.
The commissioner was accompanied on the visits by the Commissioner for Environment, Pastor Christ Onogba, the representative of the Warri South-West Council Chairman, Honourable Taiye touyo, among others.
Prince Amgbaduba that the state government was very interested in resolving the issue, hence the high powered delegation assigned to come to meet with the people of the affected area.
He told the protesters that he would place a request to the state government for relief materials and drugs to be sent to the affected communities, adding that a meeting with the affected people and the oil company and some state government officials would be convened by his ministry to amicably address the issue.
Also speaking, Pastor onogba debunked the rumour making the round that a report by the Ministry of Environment indicated that there was an oil spill, adding that he had come and seen for himself the degree of the spills.
