President Bola Tinubu is facing renewed criticism from opposition groups following a call by the OK Movement for him to step down from office over what it described as poor governance and ineffective leadership.
The group, which comprises supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, made its position known in a statement published on its verified X account on Tuesday.
The demand followed comments by Peter Obi, the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election, who urged Tinubu to resign, drawing comparisons with the recent resignation of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Backing Obi’s position, the OK Movement argued that Nigeria requires a leadership style that is competent, accountable and responsive to the needs of citizens.
“The OK Movement joins His Excellency Peter Obi and millions of Nigerians in calling for the resignation of President Tinubu,” the statement read.
According to the group, the country can no longer afford what it described as the consequences of ineffective leadership, insisting that Nigerians deserve better governance and improved national direction.
The statement concluded with the movement’s slogan, “Nigeria must be OK,” underscoring its call for political change ahead of the 2027 general election.
