The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC) Gbenga Elegbeleye has described the women’s 100m gold medal won by Blessing Okagbare at the ongoing 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland as “medal of all medals” and a blessing to Nigeria.

An elated DG who also doubles as the Chef De Mission for Team Nigeria was in the stands alongside Delta state Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan and Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) President, Solomon Ogba when the Delta State born Okagbare shined brightly among some world’s best athletes in the race and also set a Commonwealth Games new record of 10.85 seconds.

“Blessing Okagbare has silenced her critics by the record making gold medal she won in the 100m race .She did it in a style by posting a new Games record of 10.85 seconds, a rare feat indeed. The gold medal she won in this race could be better described as the mother of all medals in this Commonwealth Games” an elated Elegbeleye said.

“Mr. President (Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan) is happy with her performance and other athletes that have won medals in this competition. I have absolute confidence in the Nigerian athletes competing in this Games and I believe that Okagbare will still win more gold for Nigeria in the remaining events she would be participating in, “he said.
