The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has issued the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, a notice for disobeying court ruling on statutory transfer.
This was contained in a statement issued yesterday by Centre for Social Justice Lead Director, Eze Onyekpere.
It said the Minister disobeyed Suit No: FCH/ABJ/CS/301/2013 in the matter of Centre for Social Justice VS Minister of Finance.
It could be recalled that Hon. Justice A. Abdu-Kafarati of the Federal High Court had ruled among others that by denying the applicant access to the details of the statutory transfer in the 2013 Appropriation Act by the respondent without explanation constituted an infringement of the applicant’s right guaranteed and protected by section (1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2011.
However, since the order was made, the minister has refused and neglected to comply with the order of the court, nor complied to letters and series of meeting held in her office to that effect.
With this notice, Okonjo-Iweala has two days to comply with the order of the High Court or risk being committed for contempt of court.
