One shot during protest over electricity tariff hike in Kafanchan

A Student of Senior Government Secondary School Takau , Kafanchan, Noah Ransom, was allegedly shot when security operatives tried to disperse youths protesting electricity tariff hike and epileptic power supply in Kafanchan yesterday.
An eye witness informed this reporter that at the early hours of yesterday, the protesters filed out from Ernmako Filling Station to Kaduna electricity business Unit in Kafanchan, carrying different placards.
The protesters, mostly youths, invaded the Kafanchan electricity business Unit carrying placards reading; Stop charging us high, we need constant light, stop the blackout and many others.
Some of the angry protesters who spoke with Journalists lamented that due to the electricity Tarrif hike and epileptic power supply informed their decision to stage the peaceful protest.
They further explained that residents of Kafanchan enjoyed constant light during the former Manager but wondered why power supply became epileptic and tariff hike immediately under the new manager.
The youths also demanded the removal of the present manager and review the arbitrary increase in electricity tariff in the area.
Meanwhile, as of the time of filing this report, the security were still battling to disperse the angry youths who are demanding justice for the victim.
Contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Jalige, said he had no security details of the incident but promised to get back to newsmen with the details.
