Opeifa explains FCTA’s crave for solar-panelled traffic lights

Secretary for Transportation Secretariat in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Comrade Kayode Opeifa has reiterated the administration’s resolve to ensure rapid installation of solar system powered traffic lights at all major road intersections in the Federal Capital City (FCC).
In particular, Opeifa explained that to seamless road traffic services, FCT Administration had exclusively opted for solar system to power all the traffic lights, as it is more durable and cleaner, and supports quest for a greener and cleaner city.
The FCT Transport Boss, made this assertion while speaking with with some journalists in his office, on the assessment of the ongoing reinforced traffic lights installation and markings on major road corridors and interjections across the city.
His words: “We have opted for solar-panelled traffic lights for our major junctions, because we believe that solar, even though it is a little more expensive, it is easier and cleaner energy. It is also durable and a way to go.”
Furthermore, Opeifa while revealing that efforts are being made to connect all major road intersections in the nation’s capital city, also disclosed that already about 12 major junctions in the city centres have been connected with the solar-panelled traffic lights.
According to him, the new initiative taken by the secretariat have helped to curb the menace of vandalism, as there have been drastic reduction of theft and destruction of traffic lights facilities in the city centre.
