Ortom laments high level of immunity in govt

Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has decried the high of level of impunity going on in government.
Governor Ortom made the lamentation yesterday after receiving report of the committee set up to probe activities of the State Teaching Service.
He frowned at the attitude of government appointees who deliberately refuse to aver themselves for questioning especially when it bothers on fraud.
“We do not want to arbitrarily accuse people of wrong doing, that is why we set-up the committee. Refusal to appear and clear the air may be assumed as admittance. Even when you are wrong, you can be forgiven and given another opportunity to make amends. We believe in the rule of law and due process. This government has sworn to uphold the principles of equity, transparency and fairness.
“I have a duty to reposition every government agency to ensure they deliver on their mandate. The Teaching Service Board is pivotal to the development of the educational sector of the State because my government has promised to make primary and secondary education strong. I assure you that this report will not be dumped but given appropriate action”,Ortom pledged.
Presenting the report, Chairman of the Committee Sarwuan Tarnongo regretted at the high level of fraud at the board.
According to him, the former Executive Secretary. Dr. Wilfred Uji is to refund the whopping sum of 195 million naira been monies mismanaged from cooperative Societies between 2017 to 2020.
