A Benin based human Rights activist, Chief Patrick Eholor, has described Edo state government decision to recall 934 disengaged public schools teachers and cancel the controversial competency test for them as a huge joke.
He said the recall if allowed could ridicule the state of education in the state.
The teachers were sacked last year over alleged complicity in their certificates and competence.
The President of One Love Foundation, Patrick Eholor made the disclosure at an interactive session with newsmen at the weekend in Benin City, the state Capital.
He said the state governor, Adams Oshiomhole’s action was a long way from comfort by the All Progressives Congress (APC) led government ahead of subsequent elections in the state.
“With this flip flop and inconsistencies, does Oshiomhole think Edo people are uncivilized? If he knew he was not not going to stick to his decision then why did he use the tax-payers money to conduct the competency test?.
He noted that the pardon for the teachers may erode the recommendation of the verification committee set up by the government to investigate the alleged complicity of some teachers whose qualification/certificates have not been cleared.
He also faulted the government alleged disregard of an earlier court injunction restraining the agents from conducting the test, saying it will affect the principles of separation of powers among the three arms of government as enshrined in the 1999 constitution.
