Osinbajo visits victims of Katsina flood, pledges support

Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has visited the victims of the flood disaster that claimed the lives of at least 49 persons and destroyed 500 houses in JIbia town in Katsina state over the weekend.
The vice president who arrived Jibia town in company of the state governor, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari at around 5:30 pm went straight to the scene of the flood disaster to inspect the damages done by the rampaging flood.
Our correspondent reports that the flood disaster had displaced no fewer than 1104 persons that were currently seeking refuge at Muhammadu Bashar Primary School in Jibia.
It was further observed that most of the victims seeking refuge at the primary school were mostly women and children.
According to the victims interviewed our correspondent they alleged that at least 22 persons were still missing since the weekend incident while some few others died.
They, however, expressed satisfaction with the care given to them by the state government since the occurrence of the incident, adding that they have been receiving food rations and other items to support them.
While on a visit to the IDPs camp, the vice president commiserated with the victims of the disaster praying that God would prevent future occurrence of the sad incident.
Professor Osinbajo who said he was on the visit on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari noted that government would assess the situation and find ways to assist the victims.
