A founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osita Okechukwu, has urged President Bola Tinubu to assign more responsibilities to Vice President Kashim Shettima, particularly in the areas of economic management and national security.
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV’s Sunday Politics programme, monitored in Abuja Okechukwu said the Vice President could play a greater role in addressing Nigeria’s economic challenges amid rising living costs.
He cited a recent International Monetary Fund (IMF) report, which warned that increasing prices of essential goods could worsen poverty and food insecurity despite improvements in the country’s macroeconomic indicators.
According to Okechukwu, Nigerians are currently more concerned about economic hardship than the controversy that surrounded the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket during the 2023 election.
“Nigerians are no longer talking about the Muslim-Muslim ticket; they are now talking about stomach infrastructure,” he said.
He also argued that President Tinubu’s policies over the past three years demonstrate that the administration is not driven by religious considerations.
Okechukwu maintained that the government’s focus should remain on addressing the country’s economic and security challenges while improving the welfare of Nigerians.
