A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has expressed confidence that the party will win the August 8 governorship election in the state.
Oyintiloye said the achievements recorded by the administration of Bola Tinubu have strengthened the party’s prospects ahead of the poll.
The former lawmaker made the remarks during a chat with journalists in Osogbo on Sunday.
According to him, the performance of governors elected on the platform of the APC across the country, as well as the record of the party’s past administration in Osun State, would play a significant role in influencing voters.
He stated that the leadership of President Tinubu has made the APC increasingly attractive to politicians in other parties, leading to a steady inflow of new members into its fold.
He cited the recent defection of five federal lawmakers from Osun State, elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party and other parties, to the APC as an indication of the party’s growing strength.
“The defection of the five PDP National Assembly lawmakers and the endorsement of the President for a second term in office are indications that the people of this state love the APC and are ready to return it to office in the August 8 governorship election.
“The people of the state are yearning for the return of good governance through the APC, and by August 8, their wishes will be fulfilled,” he added.
Oyintiloye described the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, as competent and dependable.
“The party’s candidate, Oyebamiji, is competent, reliable, and a promise keeper. He will fulfill all his electoral promises for the good of the people. We are confident of winning,” he stated.
The APC chieftain also commended the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, whom he described as the leader of the party in the state, for sustaining party cohesion despite being out of government.
He said Oyetola, in collaboration with other stakeholders, had developed a framework that accommodates new entrants into the party without sidelining existing members.
Oyintiloye appealed to residents of the state not to be swayed by what he termed a campaign of calumny against the APC by rival parties, assuring them that the state would witness renewed direction under Oyebamiji’s leadership.
“Rather than engaging in buck-passing with anyone, Oyebamiji and other leaders of our party are working hard to rescue Osun and redirect the state to the path of sustainable growth,” he said.
He also encouraged opposition members willing to join the APC to follow the example of the recently defected lawmakers.
