Osun guber: Senator sues for peaceful poll

Senator Olusola Adeyeye (APC), representing Osun Central District in the Senate yesterday called for peaceful conduct of the August  9 governorship election in the state.

Adeyeye made the call in Osogbo in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at a forum with members of the Correspondents Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osogbo.

The senator, who was reacting to the July 1 alleged bomb blast at Agbedegbede in Ile-Ife, said he was shocked when he received news of the explosion.

On the political implications of the explosion, Adeyeye told NAN that since he did not know the background of the incident, it was the duty of the police to investigate the matter.

The state Security Council had on July 2, explained that a banger not an explosion or bomb was found at the scene of the incident.

Mr Ibrahim Maishanu, the Commissioner of Police, who spoke on behalf of the council, said the explosion did not pose threat to lives and property, adding that the state remained one of the most peaceful in the federation.

Speaking earlier while fielding questions from reporters, Adeyeye criticised violence and stressed the need for   peace before, during and after the governorship election.

“Once violence starts, it is like cancer that spreads; that is why a responsible government will not want it to begin in its domain which is what Gov. Rauf Aregbesola is doing.

“Anybody who commits any crime will face the wrath of the law.

“I as a person will not condone any form of violence and I know the governor is equally averse to violence,” Adeyeye added. (NAN)
