Osun poll: How Adeleke secured re-election with over 511,000 votes

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the incumbent Governor of Osun State, Senator Nurudeen Jackson Ademola Adeleke, the winner of the Saturday governorship election after he secured 511,067 votes on the platform of the Accord party.

Adeleke defeated his closest rival, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 444,815 votes. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) placed third with 17,180 votes.

The State Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, announced the official results at the collation center in Osogbo on Sunday morning after certifying that Adeleke satisfied all legal requirements.

Overall election participation saw 1,010,684 voters accredited out of the total registered electorate.

The total votes cast stood at 1,005,800, with valid votes accounting for 985,079 while 20,721 ballots were rejected.

Adeleke established his victory by winning 19 of the state’s 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs).

His wins came from Ede North, Ede South, Osogbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Ayedaade, Ayedire, Odo Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo, Ila, and Ejigbo.

Meanwhile, APC candidate Oyebamiji claimed 11 LGAs: Irewole, Isokan, Olorunda, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun, Obokun, Olaoluwa, and Ife South.

In Boluwaduro, Accord secured 7,118 votes, while the APC garnered 7,050 votes and the ADC received 179 votes.

In Ede South, Accord polled 26,188 votes, followed by the APC with 6,219 votes and the ADC with 390 votes.

In Ife North, Accord took 13,879 votes, the APC won 9,613 votes, and the ADC picked up 333 votes.

In Ilesa West, Accord recorded 16,196 votes, the APC earned 12,756 votes, and the ADC received 673 votes.

In Ifedayo, Accord gathered 7,427 votes, the APC secured 6,836 votes, and the ADC recorded 115 votes.

In Ilesa East, the APC led with 16,208 votes, while Accord polled 12,280 votes and the ADC received 504 votes.

In Ife Central, Accord scored 21,171 votes, the APC earned 15,913 votes, and the ADC gathered 747 votes.

In Boripe, the APC won with 19,963 votes, Accord recorded 12,448 votes, and the ADC gained 379 votes.

In Irepodun, the APC took 15,713 votes, Accord garnered 14,504 votes, and the ADC recorded 249 votes.

In Obokun, the APC led with 16,120 votes, Accord secured 12,023 votes, and the ADC took 205 votes.

In Orolu, Accord finished ahead with 12,352 votes, the APC earned 10,622 votes, and the ADC recorded 236 votes.

In Osogbo, Accord secured a total of 36,480 votes, the APC followed with 30,474 votes, and the ADC pulled 1,503 votes.

In Oriade, Accord led with 21,343 votes, the APC gained 14,863 votes, and the ADC received 423 votes.

In Odo Otin, Accord garnered 18,003 votes, the APC took 15,435 votes, and the ADC received 377 votes.

In Ife East, Accord accumulated 27,201 votes, the APC recorded 18,600 votes, and the ADC secured 935 votes.

In Ifelodun, Accord gained 21,107 votes, the APC received 18,396 votes, and the ADC polled 509 votes.

In Atakumosa West, the APC led with 10,037 votes, while Accord gained 7,479 votes and the ADC scored 213 votes.

In Iwo, Accord accumulated 27,085 votes, the APC secured 19,660 votes, and the ADC polled 588 votes.

In Ede North, Accord secured 35,427 votes, the APC received 10,283 votes, and the ADC recorded 307 votes.

In Ila, Accord finished with 16,211 votes, the APC recorded 12,934 votes, and the ADC gained 259 votes.

In Irewole, the APC led with 29,972 votes, Accord scored 10,934 votes, and the ADC earned 275 votes.

In Ayedire, Accord took 11,073 votes, the APC scored 9,910 votes, and the ADC gathered 148 votes.

In Atakumosa East, the APC finished ahead with 9,936 votes, while Accord received 7,872 votes and the ADC got 333 votes.

In Egbedore, Accord accumulated 19,278 votes, the APC secured 11,194 votes, and the ADC took 363 votes.

In Ayedaade, Accord led with 16,681 votes, the APC collected 15,719 votes, and the ADC brought in 331 votes.

In Isokan, the APC edged out with 14,063 votes, Accord recorded 13,765 votes, and the ADC received 384 votes.

In Olaoluwa, the APC secured 10,782 votes, Accord scored 10,063 votes, and the ADC polled 213 votes.

In Ife South, the APC pulled 14,678 votes, Accord followed with 13,507 votes, and the ADC earned 290 votes.

In Ejigbo, Accord took the lead with 18,458 votes, the APC recorded 16,195 votes, and the ADC gathered 5,053 votes.

In Olorunda, the APC finished ahead with 24,671 votes, Accord polled 23,514 votes, and the ADC recorded 666 votes.

Meanwhile, national political figures across party lines have reacted to the re-election of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, describing the poll outcome as a testament to public trust and a victory for Nigerian democracy.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who congratulated Governor Adeleke on his re-election, described the outcome as a “fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our country.”

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President disclosed that he called Adeleke directly to convey his congratulations, noting that the vote affirmed the confidence Osun citizens place in his leadership.

President Tinubu urged the governor to prioritize unity and development across the state regardless of political divisions, while also commending the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and the other 14 contestants for their discipline and conduct during the peaceful election.

Similarly, the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi, hailed the election outcome as a “significant democratic achievement” demonstrating that public vigilance can protect the popular mandate.

In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Idris Zekeri Jnr, Obi singled out Osun’s youth for their courageous and peaceful defense of their votes.

Looking ahead to 2027, Obi urged Nigerians nationwide to remain politically active, stay informed, and defend their civic choices at the polls to drive real national change.

Also, former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, celebrated Adeleke’s re-election as a triumph for the electorate and democratic institutions.

In a statement shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives stressed that the ballot remains citizens’ most powerful tool in a democracy.

He urged Governor Adeleke to embrace the renewed mandate as an increased responsibility to govern inclusively and serve every resident of Osun State, irrespective of political affiliation.

On his part, former PDP National Chairman Prince Uche Secondus extended his congratulations, describing the victory as a resounding testament to the unyielding trust and affection the people of Osun hold for Adeleke.

In a personally signed statement, Secondus highlighted the governor’s vibrancy and grassroots connection, expressing confidence that his second term would usher in sustainable growth, human capacity development, and economic revival across every corner of the state.
