Osun poll:Accord rejects Imumolen’s support for APC candidate

Date:

The Accord Party has dismissed the endorsement of the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiyi, by its expelled former 2023 presidential candidate, Chris Imumolen.

The party said Imumolen no longer represented Accord and could not speak on its behalf.

The National Chairman of Accord, Chief Maxwell Mgbudem, stated this in a statement issued on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

Mgbudem said Imumolen’s appearance at the APC rally in Osogbo and his endorsement of Oyebamiyi showed that he was not acting on behalf of Accord.

He said, “The purported appellation, ‘factional chairman’ of Accord is not only mischievous. The party has no faction.”

Mgbudem insisted that Accord remained united and confident of victory in the election.

He said the party was relying on what he described as the performance of Governor Ademola Adeleke and his administration to secure victory at the poll.

The Accord chairman also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to remain neutral and conduct a credible election.

He equally called on security agencies to be professional and impartial in the discharge of their duties.

Mgbudem urged the international community, including the European Union, African Union, ECOWAS, United States and United Kingdom, to closely monitor the election.

He said Accord was prepared for the poll and expected the election to set a new standard for democratic elections in Nigeria.

The party further appealed to voters to remain peaceful and participate actively in Saturday’s election.

Accord maintained that it would seek victory through the ballot and strengthen its political structure in Osun State.
