No fewer than 2,000 members has defected from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in Sumaila Local Government Area of Kano State to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The former members of the APC were received to the PDP by the former Governor of the state, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, Ambassador Aminu Wali and Gambo Salau.
Hon Surajo Kanawa, who led the decamped members, accused the APC of leaving the running of the party in the area to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Reps), Hon Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, who runs the party in the area like an empire.
He stated allegedly that only favoured members of Kawu are recognised as APC members in the area.
He also alleged that they are leaving the party because of the high handedness of Kawu, who he accused as blocking all channels employed for reaching the party headquarters for complaints.
He further said that the aggrieved members that worked assiduously for the success of the party over the years are being treated with contempt by Hon Kawu Sumaila.
He said that those people left APC for lack of equity, fairness and internal democracy.
He added that with Hon Kawu Sumaila in charge, the future looks bleak for the APC in Sumaila local government area.
