The spokesman of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Abubakar Jimoh, yesterday took a swipe at media owners in the country who owe journalists salaries, saying such act is sinful.
Jimoh stated in Abuja, while responding to questions from journalists during the formal launch of the Presidential Diary Magazine.
The NAFDAC spokesman who is also the coordinator of the Magazine said that the Presidential Diary was established to bridge the gap between the government and the governed in Nigeria in the provision of information on the activities of government.
His comments came shortly after the Wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, called on journalists in the country to do their work with diligence.
Represented by the Wife of the Vice President, Dolapo Osinbajo, Mrs Buhari applauded journalists in Nigeria for educating Nigerians at all times.
Speaking further, Jimoh who said he practiced as a journalism before going into public relations, added that “journalists are suffering and the constituency is being deprived and the manifest destiny of an average Nigerian journalists is not being realized.
“The take home pay of a brilliant journalist cannot take him to the next bus stop and some of them are given an ID card as their meal ticket. This is sinful. I believe that we need to restore the dignity of Nigerian journalists and the practice of journalism in Nigeria.”
