Residents of Damaturu, Yobe state capital, went into panic following the sounds of gunshot and people taught Boko Haram may have entered the city and many were running from one direction to the other as nobody knows exactly the direction where the gunshots are coming from.
However, when our state correspondent contacted the state commissioner of police, CP Sunomo Abdulmalik, he confirmed the report saying the first gunshot occurred at about 1245 hours at Zango area where there are drinking joints.
He stated that when the soldiers near the area, where there is a military check point, a team of soldiers were dispatch to the scene to find out the cause, and on their way out of Zango, one of the soldiers in a Hilux vehicle fell down while on motion and a shot was discharged out of his rifle.
He also confirmed that there was no casualty and the area is now calm
