Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Esther Ashivelli Dawaki, has taken a swipe at Senator Lawal Adamu Usman (Mr. LA), mocking his petition to the International Criminal Court (ICC) as political comedy and an unnecessary distraction.
In a viral post on her verified Facebook wall, Dawaki, who represents the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency, made it clear that she has no hand in, and would never support, any attempt to drag Nigeria’s democratic institutions before foreign courts over local political disputes.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I categorically state that I am not a party to, nor do I support, any petition, communication, or representation, whether within or outside Nigeria, that seeks to discredit or indict INEC, the security agencies, or the EFCC,” she stated pointedly.
Dawaki praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security operatives, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for their professionalism during the August 16 by-elections, stressing that she holds them in the highest regard.
Her comments, analysts say, are a direct rebuke to Senator LA’s ICC petition, which has attracted public ridicule for attempting to equate a Kaduna by-election with crimes against humanity.
“As a law-abiding citizen and believer in democracy, I will continue to pursue my legitimate political aspirations strictly within the ambit of the Nigerian Constitution,” Dawaki affirmed, calling on her supporters to remain calm, peaceful, and committed to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
Political observers argue that Dawaki’s stance exposes the widening cracks in Kaduna PDP, with grassroots leaders increasingly embarrassed by Mr. LA’s busybody politics.
