From Raji Bello, Sokoto
The gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Sokoto State, Senator Abdallah Wali has vowed to turn around the economic status of the state, if elected governor in the February 2015 elections.
He also promised to tackle the issue of under- development plaguing the state.
Wali made the pledged in an interview with journalists yesterday.
He frowned at the high rate of illiteracy, poverty, maternal mortality, infant mortality, decadence of moral values and other symptoms of under development in the state.
He vowed to work hard to reverse the trend of non performance exhibited by the APC led government.
His words: “We are near the bottom or right there on all human development indexes. We are not first in infrastructural or any of the sectoral ratings. Almajiri crisis is mounting. Youth unemployment is growing, transparency in governance is near zero and the state lacks a twenty first century oriented development agenda”.
“We must transform from backwardness to fast tracked development and make Sokoto a model state. Sokoto State is a centre of learning, a center of civilization. Why must we remain backward? Why must we rank low on all good things all the time? Why is Sokoto not the first among comity of states in Nigeria?
“This state has produced great leaders from Sheik Uthman Danfodio in the 4th century to Sir. Ahmadu Bello and President Shehu Shagari in the 21st century, we must collectively join hands to take this state out of the wood”, he explained.
The PDP candidate however called on other contenders to join hands with him in the challenging task of defeating the All Progressive Congress in the next election.
