Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Northeast zone has attributed the inability of President Goodluck Jonathan to pay a sympathy visit to the people in the insurgency prone places such as Chibok, where over 200 school girls were abducted five months ago to the unpredictability of the areas.
“Common sense would not even allow you to say, Mr. President let’s go and visit Chibok or Sambisa forest or anywhere in the insurgency affected areas, it has not been done in any country in the World”, the PDP said.
The PDP Northeast Zonal Publicity Secretary, Al’amin Sani Mohammed said that no any President of a country has ever visited war front or area intense fighting or cross-fire war.
Alhaji Al’amin Mohammed at a press conference in Bauchi explained that those insisting that the President should visit Chibok or Sambisa are saying so with ulterior motives.
He queried, “Do you like to see your President being molested or even killed just because your people want him to go or visit Chibok, they are not serious, not saying the truth, they are after something, and the real programme is not visiting Chibok.”
Mohammed debunked insinuations that President Jonathan refused to visit Chibok, and commended the efforts of the federal government in trying to curtail the insurgency in the northeast zone of the country.
According to him, Chibok is a town under Borno State and the Governor who is the Chief Security Officer of that state must be responsible for the security there, and therefore could not see any reason for people blaming the President for not visiting the town.
The PDP zonal spokesman enumerated various achievements of President Jonathan under his transformation agenda in addition to the FG interventions in the Northeast or North generally in such areas as electricity supply, water provision and roads construction.
He also cited the establishment of Almajiri boarding schools in the region to enhance Qur’anic professionalism and rescue the dignity of religious institutions towards moral teachings, training of youth and women in skill acquisition for self-reliance under the SURE-P Program, among others, as some of the achievements.
