From Uche Nnorom, Makurdi

Former Governor of Benue State Chief Samuel Ortom has vowed that the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, will wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2027.
Chief Ortom who said this in Makurdi on Tuesday when leadership of the G-14 paid him a courtesy call in his residence, maintained that he has no intention to contest any election in 2027.
He however, noted the lamentation, pain and anguish the Benue people are going through, stating emphatically,’in 2027, we will return to Government House and hold meetings at the banquet hall. People are yearning for PDP, we are not stopping anyone not even the Governor from joining the party. There is free entry’.
Speaking on the contentious issue of ward and local government congresses, the ex-Governor said they held in Zones B and C but failed to hold in Zone A.
According to him, ‘we did the right thing during the congresses. Zone B and C conducted credible congresses but Zone A could not. There was only one appeal which was dismissed as lacking merit.
“By Thursday this week, State congresses will hold as approved by the National secretariat and we will elect State officials. I appreciate the confidence repose in me to lead the party. We should uphold peace but whoever wants to cause trouble we will resist such.
“I have keenly listened to all the issues and to say that am committed to working with G-14. I will continue to encourage you to work for the party. G-14 is not disbanded and no one has the right to dissolve it not even me. Continue to advocate for the PDP and the ideals of our founding fathers. Let us be the conscience of the party.”
