A group, the PDP Youth Forum, has expressed its full support for the acting factional national Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed, harping on the need for unity and reconciliation within the leading opposition party.
This is as the group has called for peace and cooperation among party stakeholders, stressing that Nigerians are looking up to the PDP for leadership.
The Forum’s Chairman and Gombe State Youth Leader, Jamilu Ali, while addressing a press conference in Abuja, called for peace and cooperation among party stakeholders, stressing that Nigerians were looking up to the PDP for leadership.
According to him, “Our interest should be one. Nigerians are waiting for us, and we ask everybody to support the new Chairman”.
He explained that the group’s support for Mohammed was driven by his youthfulness and commitment to inclusivity.
Jamilu Ali stressed the need for all to close ranks, sit down on the round table and resolve all matters that the party is currently battling with it.
His words, “I would like to say that we stand together, congratulating the new party National Chairman Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed. We are happy to have this kind of person,.
“We as a youth, we agreed that we are giving him all our support to make sure he stabilizes the party, bring all the warring factions to the table, create a good working environment for the party to thrive.
“We are begging all our major stakeholders, all our leaders, to give the new Chairman the needed support. We beg that they should sheat all their swords. Our interest should be one.
“‘Nigerians are waiting for us, and we ask everybody to support the new Chairman”.
Also speaking at the press conference, the Secretary of the Forum and Youth Leader of Cross River PDP, Comrade Brian Odion said, ‘”We believe PDP is one. We don’t believe that there is any faction in this party. We believe PDP is one. But all I can tell you is, we are on the side of the people that are saying, let’s do the right thing.
“Let the needful be done. So, whoever says that he’s calling the party to do the right thing, we are in support of that. Nobody will say that he’s against doing the right thing.
“So, we are on the side of doing the right thing. We are only calling and urging them to do the right thing and do the needful. And we believe that PDP is one.”, he said.
Continuing, the Forum’s Chairman Jamilu said “There is no constitution that is above the Nigerian constitution. No party constitution that is above the Nigerian constitution. And even after the last court judgment, even the outgoing chairman said he respected the rule of law, he followed and he accepted the judgment of the court.
“So, that means there is no contradiction here. The court has ruled and the court has no ambiguity in it. And there is no constitution that is above the Nigerian constitution.
‘Yes, as a youth, we are the backbone of any society. There is no society, no community that can develop and grow, can achieve whatever they want to achieve, without the participation of the youth, without the improvement of the life of the youth.
So, as I said, we saw the new acting chairman, who happened to be a youth, and a youth-friendly person. So, on that aspect, we see there is need for us to come and congratulate him, and throw our support to him, so that he can use that youthfulness to run the party, and restructure the party, and bring it back together.
