PDP’ll return to power in Kogi -Ex gov

A stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party and former governor of Kogi State, Ibrahim Idris has expressed confidence that his party would return to power in the next governorship poll in the state, even as he insisted that he is not a godfather that would dictate the political direction of the state.
Speaking to newsmen at his residence in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, Alhaji Idris pointed out that the PDP had learnt from its mistakes, which led to their defeat in the last governorship election, saying allowing the people to decide freely who direct their affairs at all levels, is part of the new rebuilding process in the opposition party.
He added that the era of impunity and imposition of candidates have gone for good, pointing out that whoever desires to lead in the party must be prepared to test his or her popularity with the people.
According to him, the rebuilding process in the party in the state was aimed at charting a new beginning, where every member would be given the opportunity to contribute his or her quota to the development of the state, describing the just concluded ward congress of the party across the state as a huge sucess.
The former governor further disclosed that many prominent indigenes of the state have signified interest to contest the next governorship poll under the PDP, saying with the way they are moving at the moment, they are sure of sending the present government packing in the next dispensation.
He pointed out that the PDP did its best while piloting the affairs of the state, in terms of human and infrastructural development, saying the electorates are in a position to compare and contrast, assuring that Kogi under PDP would surely change for the better.
He stressed that what the state needs now is a God fearing, articulate, humane, intelligent, vibrant and transparent governor who would mobilize his people for development, even as he maintained that his support for a candidate cannot translate to authomatic victory.
The former governor insisted that only God has the power to ordain a leader, and as such, it would be a costly mistake for anyone to attempt to play God, noting however that whoever God choses would have the mandate to lead the people in the next political dispensation in the state.
