PERL harps on constructive engagement between Govt, citizens

The Partnership to Engage, Reform and Learn (PERL) a UK-supported governance programme, has called for a constructive citizens engagement
in aiding good governance and ensuring service delivery to the people in the Local Government Areas.
The State Lead Facilitator, PERL, Mr Adejor Abel asserted this during a 2 Day Citizens capacity strengthening on utilization of the Community Development Charter (CDC) applications to accelerate timeless in the submission of needs for consideration into Local Government and state Budget.
Adejor encouraged the CDC Champions to be constructive with their various Local government executives and a legislative Council to yield the much desired results that will benefit the citizens.
He added that the meeting with the CDC Champions is also to harvest the success, particularly in aiding good governance and ensuring service delivery to the people in the LGAs.
Adejor reiterated the need to deviate totally from confrontational and abusive approach and embrace constructive approaches.
Presenting the Objectives of engagement, Seth, Luke of Local Government Accountability Mechanisms (LGAM) said it is to enhance the quality and timeliness of citizens needs being generated as well as to address emerging challenges;
He added that the engagement will also enhance the capacity of the champions to effectively utilize the CDC platform https://citizensdemand.org to improve efficiency in the submission of the CDCs across the 23 LGAs;
Seth, Luke added the meeting will also enhance the quality and timeliness of citizens’ needs being generated as well as to address emerging challenges;
In his remarks Mr. Yusuf Goje explained that the engagement is an avenue for the CDC Champions to narrate their success stories and reflected on their challenges at the same time setting priority for next steps considering the emerging opportunities for more robust engagement going forward.
Speaking with our correspondent on the sideline of the meeting, the Planning Officer at the Planning and Budget Commission Umar Ibrahim said the constructive engagement adopted by CDC Champions aided successes recorded since its inception.
The CDC Champions used the avenue to do a thorough review of their engagement in the areas of inclusion of citizens in the government’s policy process, planning and budget in achieving service delivery and good governance in the 23 LGAs.
