Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has been awarded as the Best Governor in Health Care Delivery in Nigeria by the West African College of Physicians (Nigeria Chapter.
In a very impressive ceremony which took place in Sokoto, few days ago, the College of Physicians which was having its annual conference, commended the Governor for his tremendous achievements both in the Health Sector, and in the overall transformation of infrastructure and manpower development of the entire State.
The college, speaking through its President, Prof. Jiya was particularly enthused by the construction of Primary Health Centres in each of the 244 wards of the State. He also made mention of upgrading and construction of a General Hospital in each of the 23 Local governments of the state by the governor.
He thanked the Governor for completion of the Murtala Mohammed hospital which started in 1991, adding that efforts at reducing infant and maternal mortality have yielded tremendous result along with the polio free status the state achieved last year.
Another commendable effort was the building of the first ultra modern orthopaedic hospital within Sokoto – Zamfara- Kebbi axis to take care of accident victims.
The governor, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Buhari Kware, expressed his deep appreciation and enjoined the physicians to try to ensure quality health care delivery is made available to all Nigerians including those in very remote and rural areas.
