Plateau assembly: APC threatens Gov. Muftwang, Speaker with court action

Date:

By Jude Opara, Abuja

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned Governor Caleb Muftwang of Plateau state and the speaker of the state house of assembly of legal actions should they continue to fail to inaugurate the 16 members of the party who won the case as members of the state assembly.

It could be recalled that the Court of Appeal had annulled the election of the lawmakers originally elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and ordered that the candidates of the APC in the February 2023 elections be sworn in.

Addressing newsmen after a meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, Hon. Isaacs Kekemeke, the National Vice Chairman (South West) said it was disgraceful that several weeks after the court pronouncement, the governor and the speaker have refused to obey the order.

“First, let me speak to you on the NWC resolution in respect to the continuing unlawful, illegal conduct of the Governor of Plateau State, the speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, over their refusal to abide by the final decision of the Court of Appeal to swear in 16 members of the APC duly elected members.

“The Court of Appeal has affirmed its decision to sanction the illegality of the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, PDP and the Governor for attempting to review that decision. It is sad that the Governor of Plateau who is enjoying his office by virtue of the constitution of this country in an election will want to deby 16 members of the fruit their electoral work and to deny our party the success that they won for the people. This is disgrace to democracy and its unacceptable behaviour.

“The National Working Committee expresses its outrage and displeasure over this continued illegality and this unacceptable arbitrage by the Governor of Plateau State, by the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly and by the PDP in Plateau state and in Nigeria”.

Kekemeke further called on the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and other security agencies to ensure the enforcement of the Court’s decision.

“The National Working Committee calls on the Attorney General of the Federation, the Inspection General of Police and all other security forces to enforce the final decision of the Court of Appeal, being the last court with respect to this election.

“The last court is the court of appeal that have spoken and spoken again and yet PDP, the governor of Plateau and the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly shamelessly continue to disobey the law of the land”.

He concluded by warning that the patience of the APC is running out and that the peaceful nature of the APC must not be taken for granted by anybody or group.
