Two staff of Chinese Gold Mining Company, Hongao Mining Company Limited were recently arraigned by the police before an Upper Area Court Grade 1 in Mpape, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
The two were charged for resisting arrest and assault on public servants.
Moses Smart Osita and Ezeilo Stanley were arrested by the police after destroying the seal placed on Hongao Mining company by the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, NESREA.
They are to remain in custody pending the perfection of their bail conditions.
Peoples Daily recalled that the company was shut down by NESREA for polluting the stream in Kutasa, a community in the Federal Capital Territory.
Following the Laboratory analysis of the water, it showed high concentration of Mercury and Lead.
The Director General of NESREA, Prof Aliyu Jauro, briefing journalists on the sealing, said the concentration of Lead and Mercury is far above permissible limit.
