Police intercept Lakurawa terrorists, recover 11 cows in Sokoto

The Sokoto State Police Command has recovered eleven cows from Lakurawa terrorists after a gun battle.

 

 

The terrorists had attacked Ayawa village on July 20, 2026, and attempted to flee with the rustled cows when they were blocked by policemen, forcing them to abandon their loot and flee.

 

 

According to the command spokesperson, DSP Ahmad Rufai, all 11 rustled cattle were recovered and handed over to their owners.

 

 

He also said a police strike force team has recovered 53 pieces of wrappers stolen from a shop belonging to one Marwanu Akibu on July 10, 2026.

The spokesperson said four people have been arrested, including the principal suspect, Mustpha Danbaba of Kofar Marke in Sokoto.

 

 

The other suspects are Abubakar Usman, Bashar Abubakar, and Sa’adu Shehu.

 

 

Meanwhile, the command said it has arrested one Kabiru Abubakar, a suspected member of a motorcycle theft syndicate.

 

 

The arrest followed complaints lodged on July 20, 2026, by six residents of Gidan Masau that unknown persons invaded their area and carted away their motorcycles.

 

 

According to the police, the suspect allegedly confessed to have criminally conspired with one Ibrahim Muhammad of Tamaje area, Sokoto, currently at large, to also invade Mana Babba, Nakasari, Bado Quarters, Gidan Kanawa, and Tamaje area, carting away unspecified number of motorcycles.

“The stolen motorcycles were reportedly sold to one Ahmad of Sabon Titi and one Alhaji Kabiru of Hausawa area, both suspects currently at large. Investigation into this case is ongoing.”

 

 

The statement quoted the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, Hassan Hayatu Shaffa, as coommending the gallant efforts of the officers involved in the operations.

 

 

The CP  assured the public of the Command’s commitment to eradicating crime and ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state.

 

 

He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely information to security agencies.
