Police dispel rumour of bomb discovery in Kano

Date:

Inspector General of Police(IGP), Mohammed Dahiru Abubakar and the Police Service Commission (PSC), headed by retired IGP Mike OkiroThe police in Kano yesterday dispelled rumours that the command had defused a bomb at the Audu Bako Secretariat in Kano metropolis, describing it as unfounded.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Magaji Majiya, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano that the rumour was calculated by some persons to instil fear in the residents.

“The rumour is unfounded and a deliberate attempt by some mischief makers who do not wish the state well,” Majiya said.

He recalled that few weeks ago some people spread a similar rumour that there was a bomb blast at Dangi Roundabout on Zoo Road.

“This was also found to be untrue, days after the suspected mischief makers went to the extent of pasting old pictures of bomb blast that happened between 2012 and 2013 in Kano on Facebook,’’ he said.

Majiya therefore urged residents to ignore the rumour and go about their lawful businesses.

‘’I want to use this opportunity to call on the people in the city to disregard the rumour and go about with their normal activities,’’ he said.

NAN reports that as a result of the rumour, workers in most public and private offices hurriedly closed around 2.30 p.m. and left the secretariat to avoid possible danger. (NAN)
