Zamfara State Police Command has paraded 15 suspects in connection with riot that was allegedly staged to disrupt peace and legitimate living in the state as they blocked Gusau-Kaura Namoda road and destroyed public properties and threatened innocent lives of commuters.
According to the Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, CP Hussaini Rabi’u, the rioters at Kurya Madaro and Maguru districts who carried sophisticated weapons and embarked on unwarranted attacks on innocent citizens, were mobilized by conflict entrepreneurs to undermine the efforts by security agencies in fight against recalcitrant bandits.
“Despite the presence of security operatives coupled with their efforts to persuade the rioters to disperse back to their respective homes peacefully without using force, the rioters turned down the security operatives and even attempted to attack them.
“Our security operatives being professionally trained to handle this kind of situation, eventually dispersed them and restored normalcy without losing any life from both sides.
“It is unfortunate that, instead of putting all hands on deck to support the Government and Security agencies to restore lasting peace and tranquility in the state, but the conflict enterpreneurs are always sabotaging our efforts by sponsoring youths to become violent and unproductive in the society.
“The youths who should have been in school pursuing their educational carrier in order to become good future leaders are being used to perpetrate violent activities in the state. Let me use this medium to warn such unpatriotic elements that henceforth, the Police under my watch will not take it lightly with any person or group who tries to disrupt our peace implementation initiative in Zamfara State.
“I also wish to call on parents and guardians to take proper control of their children against any attempt by these conflict entrepreneurs to involve them into an act of criminality, the children should be fully inculcated with patriotism instead of allowing them to be taken over by peace destroyers”, CP Rabi’u has warned.
Exhibits recovered in possession of the suspects included 4 locally fabricated guns, 3 plugs used for firing the local guns, a cutlass, 6 operational motorcycles, a catapult and rolls of arms.
