Police hand over recovered 689 domestic animals to owners in Sokoto

The Police Command in Sokoto State said it has handed over 689 domestic animals recovered from bandits in coordinated operations, to their owners.
The state Commissioner of Police Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, who made this known during a press briefing in Sokoto on Thursday, said the operations were conducted in Tangaza, Wamakko, Tureta, and Bodinga local government areas.
He said six kidnapped victims were rescued along Rabah-Maikujera village in Rabah local government area on July 7, 2026, while a Lakurawa terrorist logistics supplier was arrested
along Tangaza to Gidan Madi Road.
Shaffa further said two people kidnapped by bandits from Jaredi village in Binji LGA, were also rescued.
He also said a suspected bandits informant, Shehu Umar Kuruwa, 47, nabbed on June 14, 2026 at about 0530hrs by policemen in Tureta, has been charged to court.
On crack down on vehicles without plate numbers, covered plate numbers, and other related traffic offences, Shaffa from from 16th June, 2026 when the enforcement started, a total of 105 vehicles were impounded while 96 offenders have been prosecuted.
He urged members of the public to partner with the Police through active community security engagement, intelligence sharing, and early identification of security threats.
