Crime_03Police in Delta state have said that a notorious kidnapper has met his waterloo as he was gunned down at Utiuyo Village in Okpara on Monday September 5.

The Delta Police Spokeswoman, Mrs. Celestina Kalu, said that the police at Isiokolo had received a distress call that a man later identified as one Abemu Gabriel of Oviere community, who is a teacher with Oruodo primary school in Ethiope Local Council, was kidnapped by the rail line at Okpara by some by unknown gunmen.

Kalu said following the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) immediately mobilised his men and blocked all exit routes in the area and went after the hoodlums with his patrol team.

She said that the patrol team caught up with the hoodlums at Utiuyo village in Okpara where the criminals on sighting the policemen opened fire on them, adding that in the ensuing gun battle, one of the hoodlums whose identity was yet to be verified, was fatally wounded while the rest suspects escaped, and the victim was rescued.

The Police Public Relations Officer said that the victim is presently receiving medical attention in a hospital as a result of shock, while efforts are on top gear to track down the fleeing criminals.

Besides, a 39-year-old man has been arrested at Okpanam, Delta State, for defiling a two-year-old girl.

According to Kalu, a male resident of Okpanam had reported at the local police station last Monday that while his two-year-old daughter was passing urine, she started crying of pain in her private part and when he asked her what was wrong, the little girl told him that one Gbanga Anaorin, 39, who works in his compound as a carpenter, had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.

She said that on receipt of the report, detectives swung into action and promptly arrested Anaorin who is now helping the police in investigation.
