Police move to resolve APGA crisis

Police has invited the two contending chairmen of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Victor Umeh and Maxi Okwu in order to settle the lingering dispute on who is the genuine chairman of the party.

The police which directed both chairmen to appear in the Federal Capital Territory Police Command on the 13th of May, according to our source, would investigate the judgement documents which both chairmen had earlier obtained, with a view to determining the authentic chairman of the party.

This decision by the police to invite both contenders with their judgement documents, was sequel to the occupation of the party’s secretariat at Wuse in Abuja, on the 14th of April, by Maxi Okwu faction, which nearly degenerated to a free for all between officials of both factions.

It would be recalled that Umeh had petitioned the FCT police command shortly after the APGA headquarters was occupied by Maxi Okwu group.

In the petition, Umeh alleged that the Okwu’s faction invaded the secretariat in company of thuggs and rough-handled the people working at the secretariat.

To this end, police last Friday, invited the National Secretary of Okwu’s faction of the party, Sagir Auwal Maidoya, to respond to the petition to the Command by Umeh and Sani Shinkafi.

Meanwhile, in a statement issued yesterday by the Maxi Okwu’s faction said the party leadership could not have come with thugs when it has already written to the FCT Commissioner of Police on 15th April, 2014, requesting for police security cover on 16th April 2014, when his faction members proceeded to the secretariat.
