Delta State Police Command Asaba on Monday confirmed the arrest of twelve pickpockets at the ever busy Coka Junction of Asaba in the early hours, disclosing that the three others were killed in a gunbattle around Ogwashi Uku Community
The Police Public Relations Officer in the State DSP Bright Edafe who confirmed this to Journalists in a statement signed said that the twelve pickpockets were arrested by plain clothes policemen that have been positioned within the area to monitor the nefarious activities of hoodlums during the Yuletide season adding that the Suspects confessed to the crime that they operate as pickpockets to survive the hardship currently unsettling Nigerian people as a result of poor economy
Noting that the police were determined to ensure that the Yuletide seasons were devoid of crimes, particularly robbery, DSP Edafe Bright said that the three killed robbery suspects met high powered gunbattle with the police along Ogwashi Uku expressway in the early hours when they sighted the police van coming towards their direction as they opened fire on them unfortunately, the superior power of the Police fell three of the Suspects in a six man gang of armed robbers who have been operating within the area in the last few months.
Meanwhile the police have warned those who engage in Knockouts shooting to stop forthwith disclosing that the ban on Knockouts shooting by the police was still in force as the police will deal rootlessly with offenders no matter how highly placed
Recall that Asaba and its environs during nightfall are enveloped with knockouts shootings by elders and youths a situation that had unsettled members of the public more often in the fear of the unknown but the security agents while noting that armed hoodlums have under the guise been perpetrating evil activities, however called on parents to call to order their wars / Children who have been involved in the shootings of Knockouts during nightfall
Also, the Police have raided secret operational bases of armed robbers around Cable Point quarters in Asaba and arrested four women Suspected to be sponsors of the armed robbers in Asaba and its environs over the years. DSP Bright Edafe said that the Suspects were currently being detained for further investigation adding that on completion of Investigation they will be charged to court.
