Benue State Police Command has arrested 26 cultists/armed robbers following a renewed onslaught on criminals in the State.
A statement by the Command Public Relations Officer SP Catherine Anene on Tuesday, said their arrest came against the backdrop of renewed upsurge of cult and other criminal activities in North Bank area of Makurdi, Benue State capital that prompted the Commissioner of Police Steve Yabanet to order all Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Commanders to clampdown on cultism and other crimes within their areas of responsibility.
According to the statement, exhibits recovered include; two locally made pistols loaded with live ammunition and illicit drugs, even as it intimated that investigation is ongoing to arrest other suspects.
Also, the Police on 18th November, 2024 arrested a suspected gun runner in Ikyobo-Agbede, Ushongo LGA
“On 18/11/2024 at about 1025hrs while police officers were on routine stop and search duties along Ikyobo-Agbede road, Ushongo LGA, they intercepted one Daniel Emmanuel on a motorcycle. A search at the spot led to the recovery of two(2) locally made pistols in his bag. Investigation is ongoing to unravel his source and the receivers he intends to supply”.
Similarly, the Police has arrested 5 suspected armed Robber along Lafia-Makurdi road.
“On 9/11/2024 at about 1900hrs, information was received that while commuters were on transit from Calabar to Abuja, their vehicle broke down along Makurdi – Lafia road and some robbers along the road attacked and robbed them of their belongings.
