By Lateef Ibrahim, Abuja
The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the successful rescue of Chief Adebayo Adelabu’s sister, Mrs. Busayo Adelabu-John Paul, and her twin sons.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the successful rescue operation in a terse statement made available to journalists Saturday night.
Two of the kidnappers were reported to have been killed in the process.
Mrs Adelabu-John Paul, a younger sister to the immediate past Minister of Power, and her twin sons were kidnapped in the early hours of June 3 in Ibadan while conveying the children to school.
Armed gunmen intercepted her at Elewura area of Challenge in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, and forcefully took her away with the twins.
The ox-blood KAI vehicle in which the younger sister of the former Minister of Power and her twins (boys) were driving as at the time they were kidnapped, was abandoned at the scene with the engine still running, when residents of the area arrived.
The abduction sent shockwaves through the family and the wider political community in Oyo State, given Chief Adelabu’s prominence as a former minister and APC governorship aspirant.
It was however not clear if any ransom was paid to secure the release of the woman and her two sons.
