Following intensified battle against banditry, the Zamfara State Police Command successfully rescued five kidnapped victims, as a swift tactical operation along the Anka–Bukkuyum Road.
A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) acted on credible intelligence indicating that armed bandits had barricaded the Anka–Bukkuyum Road and abducted five travellers.
It further disclosed that, upon receiving the distress information, the Police team immediately mobilized to the scene and launched a coordinated rescue mission, pursued the suspects into the surrounding bush, where they intercepted the fleeing bandits and engaged them in a gun battle.
“Faced with the superior firepower and determination of the Police operatives, the criminals abandoned their mission and fled into the forest with suspected gunshot injuries.
“The operation resulted in the successful rescue of all five victims without injury. Additionally, two motorcycles used by the bandits were recovered at the scene.
“The Zamfara State Police Command reiterates its unwavering commitment to combating criminal activities across the state and ensuring the safety of all residents. Members of the public are encouraged to continue supporting security agencies with timely and actionable information for needed prompt response”, it solicited.
