From Femi Oyelola, Kaduna
A planned protest organized to pass a “Vote of No confidence” on Kaduna Governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, in Kachia local government area yesterday was abruptly stopped by the Police.
The angry youths and women, who were mobilized from Kaduna and all the eight local government areas of Southern Kaduna to attend the rally, marched to the Kachia Police Station to lodge their complaints against what one of the group leader, Peter Danjuma described as “Unacceptable, the present system in the state.”
While at the police station, Danjuma, who led the aggrieved youth to the office of Divisional Police Officer, DPO Nyatse Maisamari, demanded to know why heavily armed soldiers were drafted to the venue of the rally to stop the peaceful rally.
Though the DPO gave excuse that it was an order from above, he appealed to the youths not to go ahead with the rally because of the security situation in the war-torn area.
However, Peoples Daily gathered from the Chairman of Coalition of Non-Government Organizations in southern Kaduna, Gideon Sayal that the order to stop the rally was from the Kashim Ibrahim House, which is the seat of government in Kaduna state, because of fears of the outcome .
But Sayal said, there is no stopping them, as the youths from southern Kaduna were left with no option than to pass a vote of no-confidence on Yero because of the incessant attacks and killings in the area.
“We can’t continue to support a government that does not show concern or take decisive step to stop the killings of our people.” He Stated.
Sayal also noted that the youths had organized the rally to send a message to the state government that enough is enough of senseless killings in southern Kaduna area. “This is why we are going to vote Governor Yero out, come 2015”, he stressed.
